In Senegal, a generator faces two climate conditions together: salty, humid sea air in Dakar and along the coast, and high temperatures inland with the dust carried by the harmattan wind in the dry season. The grid is 50 Hz, 230/400 V, directly compatible with the 50 Hz / 1,500 rpm ratings in our catalogue.

The coast and the rainy season

On the coast, surface protection and regular maintenance slow down corrosion. In the rainy season humidity rises; on standby sets that stand for long periods without running, alternator and panel heaters prevent condensation. The position of the set also matters: choose ground where water does not collect and that is out of the direct sea wind.

Inland: heat and dust

An engine loses power in the heat. We choose the radiator for the highest temperature on site and move up one rating if needed; we explain the logic in power loss with temperature and altitude. For dust during the harmattan season, we upgrade the air filtration and advise more frequent filter checks. The canopy must keep dust out but must not trap hot air inside.

Backup or primary source?

In a hospital or commercial building connected to the grid, the generator is a backup; the ATS panel brings the set online during an outage. On sites the grid does not reach, or where it is insufficient, the set is the primary source and the selection is made on prime power. On such sites, running two sets in parallel with a synchronization panel keeps work going while one is in maintenance.

Fuel

We choose the tank from the set’s hourly consumption under load, its daily running time and the refuelling interval. For a rough calculation, see our fuel tank sizing article.

Where else?

In Senegal, generators are used in industrial and manufacturing plants, in agriculture and irrigation, in hotels and commercial buildings, at telecom stations and on construction sites. For construction sites we also offer trailer-mounted generators and light towers.

Grid and quote

Grid: 50 Hz, 230/400 V. The ratings in our catalogue are for 50 Hz / 1,500 rpm.

For a quote, just tell us: power or a load list, standby or prime, canopied or open type, panel requirements, fuel tank, the highest temperature on site and whether the set will run on the coast or inland.

The sets leave Türkiye mostly by sea. Each one passes a full-load test before it leaves the factory. A commercial invoice and packing list are prepared; a certificate of origin and other documents are issued on request. Request a quote.

Frequently asked questions

What voltage and frequency do generators run at in Senegal?

The Senegalese grid is 50 Hz, 230/400 V. The 50 Hz / 1,500 rpm ratings in our catalogue match this grid directly; we confirm the site voltage at the quotation stage.

How does humidity in the rainy season affect a generator?

On a set that stands for long periods without running, moisture can condense in the alternator windings and the panel. An alternator heater, a panel heater and a well-ventilated canopy reduce this risk; a standby set should be run under load at regular intervals.

What is done about dust during the harmattan season?

The air filtration is upgraded and filter checks are made more frequent. The air inlet openings of the canopy should be cleaned regularly during the dusty season; a blocked inlet reduces both power and cooling.
