The Libyan coast and the interior do not need the same generator. The coastal cities have humidity and salt; further south there are summer days above 45 °C, and sand. That is why our first question to every Libyan customer asking for a quote is the same: “Where will the set run?”

Temperature first

If we know the highest ambient temperature on site, we choose the radiator for it. If we don’t know it, we don’t guess; we ask. An engine loses power in hot weather, and for a set that will run above 40 °C this loss has to be accounted for from the start. We explain the logic of the calculation in power loss with temperature and altitude.

On canopied sets, ventilation is a separate issue. The canopy protects the generator from sun and sand, but if you restrict the air inlet it keeps the heat inside. We size the inlet and outlet openings for a hot climate.

Sand and dust

On a site that sees sandstorms, a standard air filter clogs quickly. For such sites we upgrade the filtration and advise you to shorten the filter inspection interval. This small part does more than anything else to decide engine life.

On the coast the problem is different: salt air. There, surface protection and regular maintenance need attention.

Grid: 230/400 V, 50 Hz

The Libyan grid is 50 Hz, 230/400 V. All the ratings in our catalogue are given for 50 Hz / 1,500 rpm, so the sets connect without any extra conversion.

Where are they used?

In Libya, generators are used mostly on construction sites, in industrial plants, as backup for hospitals and commercial buildings, at telecom stations and for irrigation. On a site with no grid, the generator is the only source; then it is selected on prime power. For buildings where the set must start automatically during an outage we add an ATS panel, and for large plants a synchronization panel that runs several sets in parallel. For construction sites we also ship trailer-mounted generators and light towers.

A common mistake

Selecting a set that will run 20 hours a day on its standby rating. Standby is for backup sets that run for limited periods, only during mains failures. On a site without a grid, or in an area where the grid fails often, the set stays under load for long hours every day; at this pace an engine selected on its standby rating wears out quickly. Tell us how many hours a day the set will run, and we will choose the right rating. Power loss from heat is then added on top of that calculation.

Power (kVA), standby or prime, open type or canopied, panel requirements, fuel tank and the highest temperature on site. These six items are enough. The sets leave Türkiye mostly by sea; each one passes a full-load test before it leaves the factory. We prepare the commercial invoice and packing list; documents such as a certificate of origin are issued on request. Request a quote.

Frequently asked questions

What voltage and frequency should a generator in Libya have?

The Libyan grid is 50 Hz, 230/400 V. The 50 Hz / 1,500 rpm ratings in our catalogue match this grid directly. We still confirm the site voltage at the quotation stage.

Why can’t a generator deliver its full power on a desert site?

In hot weather the air the engine draws in is thinner, and the radiator can reject less heat. The result is power loss. That is why we ask for the highest temperature on site; if needed, we enlarge the radiator or move up one rating.

How are generators shipped to Libya?

Mostly by sea: open type, canopied or in a container. A commercial invoice and packing list are prepared; a certificate of origin and other documents are issued on request.
