A trailer mounted diesel generator is a mobile power solution in which a soundproof, canopied diesel generator set is mounted on a trailer chassis that can be towed by a vehicle. The places that need power most are often the places the grid does not reach: our trailer mounted generators take power wherever it is needed, from construction sites to outdoor events and from disaster zones to mining sites.

We build our trailer mounted sets on the canopied diesel generators in our product catalogue. The engine, alternator and canopy are selected according to the power requirement, and the trailer type according to the size and weight of the set. Every set is tested at full load in our factory before shipment.

Features

  • Single-axle and twin-axle trailer options: According to the size and weight of the set.
  • Reinforced chassis: Suited to rough terrain, with balanced weight distribution for safe towing.
  • Soundproof canopy: CNC laser cutting, electrostatic powder coating, sound-absorbing inner lining and lockable doors.
  • Base-frame fuel tank: Standard; an additional or enlarged tank for longer running time is optional.
  • Control panel: Datakom DKG-309 on sets below 500 kVA and Datakom D-500 at 500 kVA and above; mains monitoring, automatic start and engine protection.
  • Protection: Overload and short-circuit protection, emergency stop button.
  • Options: Automatic transfer switch (ATS), remote monitoring module (GSM / IoT), cold climate pack, custom colour.

Canopied set examples: dimensions and weight for trailer selection

The trailer type is determined by the size and weight of the canopied set. The values below are taken from our product data sheets (canopied set, standard base tank, 50 Hz):

Model Standby / prime Canopied dimensions (mm) Weight Tank Fuel at 75% load
TRX P ST 0033 33 / 30 kVA 1800 × 1000 × 1250 765 kg 100 L 5.4 L/h
TRX P ST 0050 50 / 45 kVA 2200 × 1000 × 1550 995 kg 125 L 8.2 L/h
TRX SD TA 0100 100 / 91 kVA 2350 × 1000 × 1550 1,450 kg 125 L 15.2 L/h
TRX P ST 0150 150 / 135 kVA 2650 × 1100 × 1750 1,530 kg 265 L 22.7 L/h
TRX P ST 0200 200 / 180 kVA 3000 × 1100 × 1850 2,135 kg 265 L 32 L/h
TRX P ST 0250 250 / 230 kVA 3000 × 1100 × 1850 2,650 kg 265 L 38 L/h

Weights are those of the canopied set; the trailer chassis and fuel weight are added separately. Dimensions and weights of the other models are listed in the technical table on each product page.

Applications

  • Construction and building sites: Tower cranes, welding machines, site offices and lighting, see construction site generators.
  • Outdoor events and functions: Stage, sound and lighting systems, catering areas.
  • Disaster and emergency zones: Temporary shelters, field hospitals and coordination centres.
  • Mining and agricultural projects: Pumps, irrigation and site equipment where there is no grid.
  • Telecoms and infrastructure work: Base station maintenance and temporary power needs, see telecom generators.
  • Military and public sector sites: Missions that require rapid deployment, see military generator.

On sites that work at night, trailer mounted light towers can also be used.

Trailer mounted generators by power rating

For the ratings most often chosen for construction and temporary sites, see our power pages: 20 kVA, 30 kVA, 50 kVA, 75 kVA, 100 kVA, 150 kVA, 200 kVA and 250 kVA. To find the power you need, use our generator power calculator.

On-site set-up and safe use

  • Ground: The trailer mounted set is parked on level, firm ground; the support legs are lowered and the wheels are secured.
  • Earthing: The set is connected to a suitable earth electrode on site.
  • Cabling: Load cables are sized for the power of the set and protected where vehicles cross them.
  • Airflow: The canopy’s air inlets and outlets are kept clear; the exhaust outlet is directed away from the work area.
  • Refuelling: Fuel is added through the external filler once the set has been stopped.

Buy or rent

In addition to sales, trailer mounted generators are available through our generator rental service. Buying is generally the better fit for work that moves constantly and for long projects, and renting for short-term and seasonal work.

Information needed for a quotation

  • Power requirement or list of equipment to be supplied
  • Voltage and frequency (50 Hz or 60 Hz)
  • Required running time on fuel at the site
  • Towing conditions and the terrain of the sites
  • Need for ATS, remote monitoring or a cold climate pack

With this information we prepare the right set and trailer configuration for you. Request a quote; for maintenance and breakdown support, see our generator service page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the advantage of a trailer mounted generator?

A trailer mounted generator can be towed by a vehicle from site to site without a crane or truck. This allows fast set-up on construction sites, at events and on temporary work sites; when the job is finished, the set is easily moved to the next site.

Should I choose a single-axle or twin-axle trailer?

The trailer type is determined by the size and weight of the canopied set. Single-axle trailers are used for lighter, shorter sets and twin-axle trailers for heavier, longer sets. The choice is made at the quotation stage, taking into account the weight of the set with a full tank and the towing conditions.

What power can a trailer mounted generator have?

Trailer mounted sets are selected from the canopied diesel generators in our product catalogue according to the power requirement. Small and medium ratings are the most common for construction sites, events and rental. For the power you need, a trailer configuration suited to the size and weight of the set is defined in the quotation.

Is a trailer mounted generator soundproofed?

Yes. Our trailer mounted sets come with a soundproof canopy. The inner surfaces of the canopy are lined with sound-absorbing material, and the air inlets and outlets are designed to reduce noise. This means the set can be used on sites close to residential areas and at events.

Can an existing generator be mounted on a trailer?

After the dimensions, weight and canopy design of the set have been checked, a trailer chassis can be configured for suitable sets. Share your set details with us for more information.

Can a trailer mounted generator be rented?

Yes. In addition to sales, trailer mounted generators are available for rental. For short-term and long-term rental, see our generator rental page.
