Hospitals
Diesel generators for hospitals: automatic transfer, fast start, redundant and synchronized systems, full-load testing and scheduled maintenance.

In hospitals, units such as operating theatres, intensive care, laboratories and emergency departments must keep running during a power failure. A hospital generator comes online within seconds of a mains failure and supplies these critical loads.
What matters in a hospital?
- Start-up time: When the mains fails, the transfer panel starts the generator automatically and transfers the load. The changeover times set by the standards for medical locations are the foundation of generator selection and panel design.
- Redundancy: If a single generator fails, the whole hospital goes dark. Running several generators in parallel via a synchronization panel (N+1) eliminates this risk.
- Load profile: Imaging equipment, lifts, HVAC and medical gas systems draw sudden, variable loads. The generator must be sized to handle the largest motor start and sudden load increases.
- Fuel autonomy: In long outages, a hospital may run on its generator for days. Tank capacity and the refuelling plan should be settled at the start of the project.
- Noise and exhaust: Hospitals are sensitive environments. A soundproof canopy and a correctly positioned exhaust protect the comfort of patients and staff.
Hospital projects with Terex Diesel
We manufacture our sets at our facility in Türkiye, and none ships without passing a full-load test. For hospital projects, we provide the generator together with the synchronization panel, a medium voltage solution where needed, commissioning and scheduled maintenance, all from a single source.

Frequently asked questions
How quickly must a hospital generator come online?
IEC 60364-7-710, the international standard for electrical installations in medical locations, specifies a changeover time of no more than 15 seconds for most of the safety power supply; some life-critical equipment requires an uninterruptible power supply (UPS). The exact requirement depends on the regulations and standards that apply to the project.
Should a hospital use one large generator or several generators?
Running several generators in parallel via a synchronization panel keeps critical loads supplied even when one generator is under maintenance or fails (N+1 redundancy). This is why it is the usual choice for medium and large hospitals.
How often should a hospital generator be serviced?
The generator should be run under load at regular intervals, and its oil, filters, batteries and cooling system should be serviced periodically according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Terex Diesel provides scheduled maintenance and service support after installation.
