Military Generator
Military generator: trailer-mounted, canopied and vehicle-mounted diesel sets with rugged canopy, large fuel tank, cold climate pack, built to spec.

Field headquarters, mobile operations centres, border posts and temporary camps are places where power must stay uninterrupted even in the toughest conditions. We configure our military generator sets for rapid deployment, rough terrain and severe climates, and define the power, fuel, canopy and control system according to the project specification.
Each military diesel generator is built on the diesel generator sets in our product catalogue. Engine and alternator selection, canopy, chassis and fuel system are configured for the mission, and every set is tested at full load in our factory before shipment.
Product options
- Trailer-mounted military generators: A canopied set on a single-axle or twin-axle trailer that can be towed by a vehicle. For units that relocate frequently and for temporary sites. Details: trailer-mounted generator.
- Canopied field sets: Fixed or semi-fixed installation in a soundproof, lockable generator canopy. Canopied sets go up to 1,100 kVA.
- Containerised sets: For high power requirements above 1,100 kVA, see containerised generators.
- Vehicle-mounted generators: Sets integrated into vehicles for communications, command and control, and electronic systems.
- Portable generators: Compact sets for small power requirements.
- Light towers: For night work and site lighting, see light towers.
Configuration for field conditions
Rugged canopy. Canopy panels are CNC laser cut and folded, and finished with corrosion-resistant electrostatic powder coating. Inner surfaces are lined with sound-absorbing material; wide, lockable doors give easy access to maintenance points and prevent unauthorised access. The colour can be chosen to suit the project.
Vibration and shock. The engine and alternator are mounted on anti-vibration mounts; trailer-mounted sets use a reinforced chassis.
Climate. A cold climate pack with block heater is optional for cold regions. In hot and dusty regions, cooling and air inlets and outlets are assessed against the maximum ambient temperature.
Fuel. Standard sets have a base-frame fuel tank. For long missions an additional or enlarged tank is added; an external fuel filler allows safe refuelling in the field.
Control and monitoring. The standard control panel is the Datakom DKG-309 on sets below 500 kVA and the Datakom D-500 at 500 kVA and above. A GSM or IoT-based remote monitoring module is optional; on sites where several sets will run in parallel, a synchronization panel is used.
Frequency. In addition to 50 Hz, the sets can also be built for 60 Hz.
Canopied set examples: dimensions, weight and fuel
The values below are taken from our product data sheets (canopied set, standard base tank, 50 Hz). Approximate running time is calculated by dividing the base tank capacity by fuel consumption at 75% load; it can be extended with an additional tank.
| Model | Standby / prime | Canopied dimensions (mm) | Weight | Tank | At 75% load | Approx. running time |

To size the tank for the running time a mission requires, use our generator fuel calculator; to find the power you need, use our generator power calculator.
Which power rating?
On military sites the power requirement depends on the systems to be supplied: small and medium ratings at communications and command posts, medium ratings at camps and field headquarters, and high ratings at field power plants. You can browse the sets by rating:
- Small and medium power: 20 kVA, 50 kVA, 100 kVA
- Medium power: 200 kVA, 250 kVA, 500 kVA
- High power: 1000 kVA and above, multiple synchronized sets
Quotation and specification
In military and public sector projects, the quotation is prepared against the specification. The following information helps:
- Power requirement and duty (standby or prime)
- Voltage and frequency (50 Hz or 60 Hz)
- Transport method: trailer, vehicle-mounted, fixed canopied installation or container
- Minimum and maximum ambient temperature and altitude
- Required running time on fuel and noise limit
- Colour, markings and any special clauses in the specification
You can send your specification through our quote form or call us. For installation and the operating period, see our generator service and remote monitoring installation services.
Frequently asked questions
What is a military generator?
A military generator is a generator set configured for harsh terrain and climate, used to supply power where there is no grid or the grid cannot be relied on, such as field headquarters, mobile operations centres, border posts and temporary camps. It can be trailer-mounted, canopied, vehicle-mounted or portable.
Which features matter in a generator for military use?
Rapid transport (trailer or vehicle), a rugged and lockable canopy, low noise, long fuel autonomy, reliable operation in cold and hot climates, easy maintenance and remote monitoring. Power, voltage and frequency are selected according to the mission requirement.
What fuel do military generators use?
Terex Diesel military generator sets have diesel engines. Standard sets have a base-frame fuel tank; for missions that require longer running time, an additional or enlarged fuel tank is available as an option. If the required running time on fuel is stated in the specification, the tank capacity is selected accordingly.
Can military generators be built on a trailer?
Yes. A trailer chassis is one of our optional equipment items. The canopied set is mounted on a single-axle or twin-axle trailer so that it can be towed by a vehicle. The trailer type is determined by the size and weight of the set.
Can military generators be built for 60 Hz?
Yes. The values in our product catalogue are for 50 Hz; the sets can also be built for 60 Hz. Because 60 Hz ratings vary with the engine, alternator and required voltage, they are confirmed in the quotation with project-specific technical data.
What information is needed for a military generator quotation?
Power requirement and duty, voltage and frequency, transport method (trailer, vehicle-mounted, fixed), minimum and maximum ambient temperature, altitude, required running time on fuel, noise limit, colour and any specification clauses.
