In Dar es Salaam and along the coast the weather is hot and humid all year. Inland the ground rises; the middle of the country is a plateau above 1,000 metres, and the mountains in the north are higher still. In the same country, one generator deals with humidity and another with altitude.
On the coast: humidity and heat
In humid air the real trouble is condensation. Moisture builds up in the alternator and panel of a backup set that stands idle for a long time. That is why we recommend moisture protection and regular test runs. Corrosion-resistant protection for metal surfaces and good ventilation for the canopy are a must. We also choose the radiator for the highest temperature on site.
On the plateau: altitude
At 1000–1,500 metres an engine loses part of its sea-level power. In higher areas such as around Kilimanjaro, the difference grows. We select the set for the site altitude and move up one rating if needed. The logic of the calculation is in power loss with temperature and altitude.
Off-grid sites
In Tanzania there are many sites that the grid does not reach or cannot supply enough: construction sites, processing plants, tourist camps, farms, telecom stations. In such places the generator is not the backup but the primary source. Then:
- We select the set on prime power.
- We set the tank capacity by how often fuel arrives.
- For work that must not stop, we run two sets in parallel with a synchronization panel; while one is in maintenance, the other carries the load.
In hospitals, hotels and commercial buildings that do have the grid, the set is backup; the ATS panel brings it online automatically during an outage. For construction sites we also ship trailer-mounted generators and light towers.
Rainy season and earthing
Downpours and storms are frequent in the rainy season. The set should stand on a raised base where water cannot collect; cable entries and panel doors should be sealed against water. In outdoor installations, correctly made earthing protects both people and equipment. We explain how earthing is done and why it must be measured in our article on generator earthing. Running backup sets that stand idle for long periods under load at least once a month shows up moisture problems early.
Grid
The Tanzanian grid is 50 Hz, 230/400 V. The ratings in our catalogue are for 50 Hz / 1,500 rpm, so the sets match directly.
Quote and shipping
For a quote, give us the power, standby or prime, canopy preference, panel requirements, fuel tank, the site altitude, and whether it is on the coast or inland.
The sets leave Türkiye usually by sea in a container. Each one passes a full-load test before it leaves the factory. A commercial invoice and packing list are prepared; a certificate of origin and any other documents the buyer requires are issued on request. Request a quote.

Frequently asked questions
What voltage and frequency should a generator in Tanzania have?
The Tanzanian grid is 50 Hz, 230/400 V. The 50 Hz / 1,500 rpm ratings in our catalogue match this grid directly; we confirm the site voltage at the quotation stage.
Why does a generator need more maintenance in a humid climate?
Humidity causes condensation in the alternator windings and the control panel, and corrosion on metal surfaces. The risk grows on sets that stand idle for long periods. Moisture protection, a well-ventilated canopy and regular test runs are recommended.
How is a generator selected for a site not connected to the grid?
Because the set will run continuously, it is selected on prime power. The tank capacity is set by how often fuel arrives. If uninterrupted power is needed, two sets and a synchronization panel are used.
