Importing a diesel generator from Türkiye (Turkey) follows the same technical steps as any purchase; those are covered in our full buying guide. This page covers what is specific to buying from a supplier in another country: checking who the supplier is, making the quote comparable, proving the rating before shipment, and agreeing documents and after-sales support before production.

Before you contact suppliers (short)

Manufacturer, dealer or service company

Companies offering generators for export do different jobs. First find out which role the supplier has:

  • Manufacturer: buys in the engine and alternator, and builds the base frame and enclosure, assembles, wires, fits the control panel and tests the set in its own facility. Project-specific changes and technical responsibility sit directly with the manufacturer.
  • Dealer or trading company: sells the sets of one or more manufacturers. It can be a sound supplier, but you need to know which manufacturer stands behind the test, warranty and parts.
  • Service company: provides installation, maintenance, repair and spare parts. For an importer, this is usually a local company, and it decides how well the set runs after delivery.

Some companies combine these roles. Either way, ask in writing where the set is built and tested, and who provides after-sales service in your country.

1. Check who the supplier is

  • Manufacturer or trading company. Ask where the sets are assembled and tested. A manufacturer can give the legal name and address of its production site and its own model codes.
  • Factory visit or witness test. Ask whether you or an inspector can see the set on test before shipment.
  • Consistency. The company name, address and phone number should be the same on the quote, the website and business directories.
  • Written scope. Warranty terms, what the price includes and what it excludes should be in writing, not only in messages.

2. Make the quote comparable: component models

Ask every supplier to fill in the same lines:

Item What the quote should state
Rating Standby and prime power, in kVA and kW, at your voltage and frequency
Engine Make and exact model
Alternator Make and exact model
Controller Make and model of the control module
Enclosure Open-type, canopied, containerised or trailer-mounted
Fuel tank Capacity in litres and expected running time at load
Panels ATS or synchronization panel, if needed
Test Full-load test before shipment, with test record

For how these items affect cost, see what drives generator price.

3. Prove the rating before shipment

A set that starts and idles has not proved its rating. Ask for a full-load test before shipment and for the test record: voltage and frequency stability, temperatures and protection functions at load. If your project requires a witness test, agree it in the contract. Background: load bank testing.

4. Agree shipping and documents before production

  • Transport: sea freight, road freight or a shipping container, depending on the destination and the set’s size.
  • Delivery terms: agree the Incoterms rule (for example EXW, FOB or CIF) so it is clear who pays freight and insurance, and where the risk passes.
  • Documents: list in the contract every document your customs and project require. Do not assume a document will be issued later.
  • Packing: confirm how the set is secured and protected for the voyage, especially for open-type sets.

5. Plan service and spare parts after export

Ask who will commission the set, who services it in your country, and how parts will be supplied and how quickly. A practical step is to order the first year’s filters, belts and a spare battery with the generator. Our spare parts guide and maintenance checklist list what to keep in stock.

Short question list

Also ask these questions at the quotation stage:

  1. Which certificates does the company hold (quality management, CE conformity), and can you send copies with the quote?
  2. Which power range and equipment does the quoted lead time apply to? Is it production time or dispatch time, and is the full-load test included?
  3. How long is the warranty, what does it cover (engine, alternator, enclosure, panel) and when does it start: at shipment or at commissioning?

Frequently asked questions

How can I tell whether a supplier is the manufacturer or a trading company?

Ask where the sets are assembled and tested, and for the legal name and address of that facility. A manufacturer can name its own production site and model codes, show the test area and let you arrange a factory visit or witness test. A trading company can be a valid supplier too, but you should know which one you are dealing with.

Should I ask for a full-load test report?

Yes. Ask for a test under full load before shipment and for the test record: voltage, frequency, temperatures and protection checks at load. A no-load start is not a test of rated power.

What should a generator quote from Türkiye list?

The standby and prime rating at your voltage and frequency, and the make and exact model of the engine, alternator and controller, plus enclosure, fuel tank, panels and the test. A quote that says only '500 kVA diesel generator' cannot be compared with another.

When should export documents be agreed?

Before production. List in the contract the Incoterms rule and every document your customs and your project require, so nothing has to be issued or corrected after the set is built.

How are spare parts handled after an export purchase?

Agree before ordering which filters, belts, batteries and AVR parts ship with the set, who commissions it, who services it in your country and how further parts will be supplied. Get these points in writing.

What is the difference between a generator manufacturer, a dealer and a service company?

A manufacturer combines the engine and alternator with the base frame, enclosure and control panel in its own facility and tests the set. A dealer sells the products of one or more manufacturers, and a service company installs, maintains and repairs generators. Some companies do several of these jobs; ask which role the supplier has and where the set is built and tested.

How should I assess a quoted lead time?

Ask which power range and equipment the lead time applies to, whether it means production or dispatch, and whether the full-load test is included in it. A short lead time achieved by skipping the test or the documents can cause problems on site.
