Fill in the bracketed values for your project; no brand or product names are included.
- HospitalClass G3 · 24 h at 75 % load · ≤ 70 dB(A) at 7 mWord (.docx)PDF
- SchoolClass G2 · 8 h at 75 % load · ≤ 70 dB(A) at 7 mWord (.docx)PDF
- Data centreClass G3 · 24 h at 75 % load · ≤ 75 dB(A) at 7 mWord (.docx)PDF
A good generator specification describes the result you need, not a product. This template gives you a neutral, standards-based starting point for three typical projects: a hospital, a school and a data centre. Each version can be downloaded as an editable Word file and as a PDF.
What the template contains
- Scope of supply.
- Applicable standards: ISO 8528 series, ISO 3046-1, IEC 60034-1, IEC 61439 and IEC 60947-6-1, plus local regulations.
- Site conditions: minimum and maximum ambient temperature, altitude, humidity and installation type, with a request to state the output after derating.
- Rating and performance: output in kVA to ISO 8528-1 at power factor 0.8, voltage and frequency, ISO 8528-5 performance class (G2 or G3) and the load step.
- Engine, alternator, enclosure and noise limit at 7 m, measured to ISO 3744 or ISO 8528-10.
- Fuel tank autonomy at 75% load, AMF controller, ATS and communication (Modbus RTU/TCP).
- Documentation, factory load test, warranty, spare parts and training.
- A compliance table that each bidder fills in, so offers can be compared line by line.
Values for each facility
The proposals in brackets differ by facility. The hospital version uses class G3, 24 hours of fuel autonomy, a 15-second transfer time and refers to ISO 8528-12 and IEC 60364-7-710 for safety services. The school version uses class G2, 8 hours of autonomy and a weekly test run outside school hours. The data centre version uses class G3, N+1 sets in parallel, coordination of load steps with the UPS and the data centre power (DCP) rating of ISO 8528-1:2018. Check every value against your national regulation; the stricter one applies.
How to use it
Download the version closest to your project, fill in the bracketed values, delete the guidance box and issue it with your tender documents. If you are not sure about the output, start with our article on kVA to kW conversion, and read ISO 8528 explained for the performance classes.

Frequently asked questions
Can this template be used in a public tender?
Yes. It names no manufacturer, brand or product and refers only to international standards such as ISO 8528, ISO 3046, IEC 60034 and IEC 60947. Any set that meets the stated values and proves them with the listed documents is acceptable.
Which values do I have to fill in?
Everything in square brackets: the number of sets, the output in kVA, the site conditions, the noise limit, the fuel autonomy, the transfer time and the commercial items. The values already in brackets are typical proposals for the type of facility, not requirements.
Why does the template ask for a load step and not only a performance class?
A performance class under ISO 8528-5 always refers to a stated load step. A set that meets class G3 when accepting half of its rating in one step may not meet it at full load in one step, so both must be specified.
Will you check our specification?
Yes. Send us your specification and we will reply with a compliance table showing which model meets each requirement, and where a value needs to be confirmed.
